When the first Christian Cairns school was established in 1940 – ‘Cairns Christian College’ (now Freshwater Christian College), the sporting houses were named Shadrach, Meshach and Abednegoafter three heroes of faith from the book of Daniel. These houses were later renamed after three heroes of faith who had been integral to the establishment of Cairns Christian Centre and Cairns Christian College in the early years: Mr Stanley Douglas, Mr Arthur Fuller and Mr Peter Frangos.
The teams later became known as the Frangos Sharks, the Fuller Crocs and the Douglas Barras. A little bit of history about our namesakes can be found below:
Stanley Douglas
Mr Douglas was the Senior Pastor during the early days of Cairns Christian Centre (now Freshwater Church). He was responsible for overseeing the construction of the Gatton St location, where the church met before moving to its current location, and laid many of the foundation bricks of this building himself.

Peter Frangos
Mr Frangos was a member of Cairns Christian Centre for over 40 years and held many positions of leadership during this time. His roles included serving as a deacon, treasurer, missions board secretary, Sunday School Superintendent and Royal Rangers Senior Commander. Mr Frangos was also a butcher and ran a shop in the city. He was known for giving discounts to everyone from the church who came to buy his meat.

Arthur Fuller
Mr Fuller was an elder and board member of Cairns Christian Centre for over 20 years. He worked with Pastor Smallcombe closely as they dreamt about the establishment of a Christian school and helped to acquire the land on which Freshwater Church and Freshwater Christian College now operate. Many who knew Mr Fuller remember him as a man who loved the Lord deeply and was an encouragement to all.
