Learning Support

We have a dedication to excellence in all areas of learning at Freshwater, including Learning Support, which is available to students at every stage of their education, from Prep to Year 12.

Freshwater provides innovative support programs for students with special educational needs. This helps to maximise each and every student’s opportunity to reach their full potential, relative to their strengths and giftings.

To deliver these services, the College employs Coordinators for both our Primary and Secondary Learning Support teams. Dedicated Learning Support staff assist students who have been verified with specific learning support needs, and also provide assistance to other students identified as requiring extra support in Literacy and/or Numeracy.

Our classroom teachers work alongside Learning Support staff to support students with additional learning needs, this involves:

  • Working with parents and teachers to identify and implement specific strategies to meet the developmental needs of students.
  • Assisting classroom teachers in implementing individual education and student support programs.
  • Providing educational support in one-on-one or small group settings for students requiring assistance.
  • Liaising with external educational specialists such as speech pathologists, occupational therapists, etc.
