High Ability & High Performance

Nurturing Gifts, Growing Performance

At Freshwater Christian College, we celebrate and cultivate each student’s unique potential through our High Ability & Performance Pathway—a faith-centred, student-focused approach that blends tailored support, inclusive enrichment, and real-world achievement. From Prep to Year 12, our aim is to inspire curiosity, develop skill, and cultivate character. Students are encouraged to thrive academically, creatively, physically, socially, and spiritually, building confidence and intentionality in all they do.

Real Results, Real Pathways

Nurturing Potential, Inspiring Excellence

Many students achieve outstanding academic results, awards, and recognition, with opportunities for scholarships in academic excellence, sport, the arts, and citizenship available to both prospective and current students. Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and personalised career pathways guidance provide tailored support, helping students reach their full potential.

How We Support High-Potential Students

Inclusive Enrichment

All students can nominate to participate in competitions, clubs, and programs, such as the AMT Mathematics Competition, OptiMinds, Chess, and Sports Gala Days.

Targeted Pathways

Teacher referrals, performance data, and readiness assessments identify students for tailored programs, including Maths, Science, and English enrichment, and specific competitions.

Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)

Developed collaboratively with families, ILPs connect students with mentors, adjust learning pathways, and provide targeted support to achieve personal goals.

Differentiated Instruction

Our educators use a comprehensive framework of 15 evidence-based differentiated strategies, working in collaboration with Deakin University to implement these into our programs. This ensures every child is both challenged and supported throughout their learning journey.

Leading Through Research and Collaboration

Freshwater not only embeds evidence-based programs but also leads the way in research-informed collaborations and innovative approaches to high-ability and high-performance education.

We maintain strong partnerships with local universities, including ongoing projects with James Cook University (Cairns) and Central Queensland University, to explore strategies and practical initiatives that enhance student learning and extension.
Currently, the only school in Queensland engaged in this level of collaboration with Deakin University, FCC is partnering on a joint project to further support and extend students with high ability and high performance
