High Ability & High Performance

At Freshwater Christian College, we recognise that students learn, develop and perform in different ways and at different stages. Our goal is to ensure students are appropriately challenged, supported and given opportunities to continue growing.

The High Ability & High Performance (HAHP) Partnership brings students, families and staff together to recognise individual strengths and create opportunities for students to extend their learning, develop their talents and pursue excellence with confidence, character and purpose.

From Primary through to Secondary, this may include differentiated classroom learning, enrichment and extension, masterclasses, competitions, mentoring and personalised pathways.

Our teachers undertake ongoing professional learning to help them provide appropriate levels of challenge, including opportunities for greater depth, complexity, problem solving and advanced learning.

The focus is on providing the right level of challenge to extend students’ thinking and support continued growth.

Each IPP is personalised around the student’s strengths, areas of high ability or talent, and individual goals. Developed in partnership with the student, family and relevant staff, the plan helps coordinate appropriate learning adjustments, mentoring, extension opportunities and pathways.

Many students achieve outstanding academic results, awards, and recognition, with opportunities for scholarships in academic excellence, sport, the arts, and citizenship available to both prospective and current students. Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and personalised career pathways guidance provide tailored support, helping students reach their full potential.

For students requiring more targeted support or extension, an Individual Performance Plan (IPP) may be developed.

Each IPP is personalised around the student’s strengths, areas of high ability or talent, and individual goals. Developed in partnership with the student, family and relevant staff, the plan helps coordinate appropriate learning adjustments, mentoring, extension opportunities and pathways.

Our High Ability and High Performance Coordinator, Dr Brooke Scriven, works closely with students, families and teachers to identify opportunities, support individual pathways and coordinate enrichment and extension across the College.

Alongside overseeing Individual Performance Plans, Brooke mentors students and works directly with a number of programs and teams, including Future Problem Solving and Readers Cup. She also works alongside teachers to support and strengthen classroom practice for high-ability and high-performing students.

Freshwater offers a range of Masterclasses that give students opportunities to extend their skills, explore areas of interest and engage more deeply in particular areas of learning.

Freshwater Christian College also offers scholarship opportunities recognising achievement and potential across areas including academic excellence, sport, the arts and citizenship.
