7 ways to teach our children about God

As Christian parents, we all want to teach our children about God and to have a relationship with Him. Moses, in the book of Deuteronomy 6 from verse 1 calls us to a wholehearted commitment to the Lord, asking the Israelites to love the Lord with all their heart, soul and strength and then to commit themselves to the commands that the Lord himself had given them, but in verse 7 it goes to another level and the Lord asks the parents of this new nation to repeat these commands again and again to their children. God says, talk about them when you are at home and when you are away on a journey, when you are lying down and when you are getting up again. God wants us to intentionally teach our children His ways. Sending them to Freshwater Christian College where the name of Jesus is honoured is a great decision and below I have added a few more ideas that will support you in training your children.

  1. Teach them how to pray, not just to pray.
  2. Teach them how to be thinkers so they aren’t easily influenced…
  3. Teach them how to love as defined by God’s Word, in word and in deed.
  4. Teach them from God’s Word.
  5. Teach them to worship so they learn how to connect with God.
  6. Teach them to go to God in both the good and the difficult times.
  7. Teach them how to give to others with a generous heart.
