Prep
Prep at Freshwater Christian College
At this level of early childhood development, it is important that our program is flexible so that we can cater for the needs of the children individually and as a group. Social skills and role-play are encouraged as an important part of learning. We encourage our Preps to be active learners through play and hands-on activities that develop their basic skills.
Grades 1-2
Junior Primary School
Junior Primary is an exciting time at Freshwater Christian College. Grade 1 and 2 build on the firm foundations established in Prep in Literacy and Numeracy.
In collaboration with Independent Schools Queensland, Freshwater adheres to rigorous evidence-based teaching of reading to ensure all students are challenged and develop the skills of, and a love of reading. In conjunction with explicit teaching in Literacy and Numeracy, the use of inquiry-based pedagogy supports our learners to question, analyse and investigate the world around them through their studies in Science, Humanities, the Arts, and more.
Grades 3-6
Senior Primary School
In Senior Primary, we enhance our curriculum with extracurricular programs, supporting social and literacy development while preparing students for Secondary School. Students are encouraged to participate in language, camps, music, sports, and performing arts, alongside our literacy and numeracy programs.
Our approach focuses on leadership and Christian character development, encouraging them to set a positive example for Junior Primary students.
Our diverse program nurtures not only academic excellence but also fosters growth in spiritual, social/emotional, and lifelong learning skills through positive Christian values.

Diverse Primary School Program
Alongside core academic subjects, our curriculum is built around engaging students in a diversity of subjects and co-curricular offerings to engage, excite, and challenge our primary learners.
Some of the many co-curricular and extracurricular activities include: Chess, Futsal, Personal Growth Program, Music, Japanese, Excursions, Camps, Robotics, OptiMinds, etc.
As students progress through Primary School, we explicitly teach and model social and emotional skills, alongside core academic skills such as research, analysis, and organisation to ensure they are prepared and ready for their Secondary years.
Outdoor Learning
Our bespoke Cairns Primary School offers a rich array of experiences, for all primary learners. With over 40 acres of tropical green space, students are spoilt for choice in their outdoor environment. Students engage in problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork through diverse activities. Outdoor learning plays a key role, incorporating nature-based and inquiry learning to foster a deeper connection with the environment and enhance educational outcomes.
