WOW, WOW, WOW! Our two Primary school teams had a fabulous day at the State Finals of Opti-MINDS, filmed live at St Monica’s College.

We gathered with other finalists from the Cairns region participating in a 3hr challenge producing unique and creative performances for the Primary School Media Communications and Language Literature challenges in Division 1. Our Media Team consisting of Meeka Nsengimana, Josiah Tadulala, Jett Edwards, Jestin Jones, James Biddle and Simeon go down in history as the first Cairns Finalist for the new Media Communications challenge. A very real challenge not knowing what to expect from a new category. They lit up the room with laughter from their very humourous version of the Big Bad Wolf and Red.

On the other side, our Language Lit Primary school team showered us with rhyme and puns as their Topi Topi tribe needed to find a solution to get rid of their rhymes. Their diverse performance had music, rhythm, rhyme and mime to portray their solution. OH NO! I think I caught their rhyme bug!!! Emily Schwarz, Scarlett Van Der Velde, Aroha Puddle, Poppy Pacey, Hanna Ahmed and Zara Keegan excelled in teamwork and creativity being nominated for a Spirit of Optiminds Award. STAY TUNED – results will be out soon.

The Opti-MINDS Creative Sustainability Challenge is an inclusive team challenge that EMPOWERS participants to THINK, CREATE & COMMUNICATE. Opti-MINDS is a creative problem-solving event for teams of participants from Preschool to Adults within 4 divisions.
