With all the stress and sadness in today’s world looming large, the Year Nine Drama students decided to bring some cheer into our community by presenting a couple of key scenes from the musical My Fair Lady to their parents and relatives in a recent school drama performance. The parents responded with great appreciation of their children’s performance skills and even joined in with the singing of songs such as ‘I’m Getting Married in the Morning’ and ‘Wouldn’t it be Luvverly’, much to the delight of our students who joined in heartily.
Our beautiful ‘Eliza Doolittle’, played by Livinia Schaper, and ‘Henry Higgins’, played by Mitchell Rigby, ended the school drama performance with a lovely dance to the song ‘I could have Danced all night’, with Mr and Mrs Holtam joining in the dancing. The Year Nine students have learned so much about life in the early nineteen-hundreds, including fashion, social class, women’s rights and language in England at the time. The ‘Little Globe Theatre’, as the school Drama Room is now called, reverberated with much mirth and belly laughs and the students truly achieved their goal – to thoroughly entertain their audience and bring some fun into their lives.
