There are great opportunities for Cairns school-based apprenticeships at Freshwater Christian College! With so many options for our Freshwater senior students to engage in Vocational Education and Training (VET) including internal or on-campus courses such as Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, Certificate III in Visual Arts (Photography) and a Certificate III in Fitness. Students may also choose to complete a certificate III in various qualifications incorporating their paid part-time job as the practical component of their training. This is known as a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT).
How does a School-based apprenticeships work?
School-based apprentices and trainees sign a contract between the school, employer and Group Training Organisation (RTO) such as Busy at Work and MEGT. It is a fantastic way for students to gain knowledge and skills in the industry, have a personal income, rostered work time during school hours, a VET qualification and QCE points all wrapped up in this one opportunity! Our trainees work amazingly well in their chosen workplaces and qualifications.
