What is VET in schools?
VET in schools is a program that offers vocational courses and training to high school students. In the context of education in Australia, “VET” stands for Vocational Education and Training. These courses are designed to provide students with practical skills and knowledge that can lead to specific job opportunities or further education and training in a particular industry.
VET in schools (vocational education and training) is growing in demand in high schools and at Freshwater Christian College our students have a wide variety of options available to select from. Ensuring that our students are given the freedom to pursue their passions and giftings is a priority for our College.
Qualifications are offered in a number of industries and trades such as carpentry, automotive, aviation, early childhood education and even photography. Not all students decide to pursue entry into a University and with VET in schools. Now all students have an opportunity to try new things and excel in their preferred pathway. Our VET Coordinator is available to support and guide students in making the right choices and finding the right pathway for each individual.
TAFE at school
TAFE at school is a brilliant program for senior students, run by TAFE it gives students the chance to spend one day a week in the TAFE classroom. With both practical and theory time, students get their hands dirty working on real cars and engines in automotive qualifications, building miniature houses in carpentry or practising makeup and hairstyles in beauty classes. Students love the adventure and learning out of the normal school classroom setting.
TAFE at school also allows students to join the workforce faster and gives them nationally recognised qualifications while still at school. Students also get the opportunity to build practical skills and grow in confidence as they step out of their comfort zone. There are so many advantages, for any students interested in looking into a VET in schools pathways we recommend contacting our VET Coordinator vet@fcc.qld.edu.au
Certificate II Aircraft Line Maintenance – VET in schools option
This school to work pathway allows school students to take the first step to a career within the aviation industry. The Certificate II in Aircraft Line Maintenance (MEA20518) provides the basic level knowledge and skills required to perform a range of specified maintenance tasks on aircraft on a flight line or at the departure gate. Students attend Aviation Australia in Cairns to complete this qualification. Just one of the many pathways Freshwater Christian College offers its senior students.
Congratulations go to two of our Year 12 students, Jeriah and Lisa who recently completed their Certificate II in Aircraft Line Maintenance, hard work has paid off, students and families celebrated recently at their Awards Ceremony at Aviation Australia Cairns.
