Gifted & Talented

We are committed to an educational program that recognises individual student giftings and talents. Embodied in this commitment is a responsibility to provide gifted students with opportunities to develop their full potential. We empower our students to take responsibility for their giftings. We do this within an inclusive classroom environment, through provision of a variety of extra-curricular options; and, the scientific use of formative data collection and analysis to track performance and define growth pathways.

Gifted students are those who excel or have the potential to excel, in general or specific areas of learning. These children differ in their learning ability as they absorb and understand information at a faster rate than their peers, retain information for longer periods of time, and often have broader areas of interest than other children of the same age. For gifted students, we seek to provide a differentiated education program that is designed to more adequately meet their individual needs and learning abilities. 

These programs  provide a planned curriculum that utilises higher order skills such as inquiring, problem solving, and critical and creative thinking. These skills are  developed in an environment that promotes self-direction, risk-taking, curiosity, imagination and interpersonal relationships. The long-range goals of this program are self-actualisation for the gifted student and the development of a sense of responsibility to self, school, and society. 

To best cater for the wide diversity of abilities, characteristics, interests, learning rates and learning styles of gifted students within the College, a range of program options are available. We achieve this within an inclusive classroom environment, through the use of formative data and identification processes, along with a wide range of extra-curricular options.
